As Muslims all over the country celebrate Eid-el kabir today which is characterized by slaughtering of animals, the Chief Medical Director of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital [ATBUTH] Bauchi Dr Muhammed Alkali has advised people not to eat excess meat so as to avoid diarrhea.
The Chief Medical Director who gave this advice yesterday in an interview with newsmen said there is the propensity that many people might suffer from diarrhea this festive period because of the availability of too much meat.
He pointed out that those who cook their animals well, store it in a hygienic place and eat less would remain healthy through out the sallah season.
Alkali also cautioned people against taking potash or tamarind water as a prevention against diarrhea noting that they could not prevent the problem but are capable of causing ulcer because ‘tamarind has too much acids’.
‘’ Although meat is a source of protein, people should not eat it in excess; they should prepare it well, store it in hygienic place and eat less over time to avoid diarrhea. Because diarrhea is caused by how the meat is cooked and how it is taken’’ He explained.
