A renowned human rights activist and National Coordinator, Osun West Peoples Assembly (OWEPA), Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman has concluded arrangement to lead the campaign for the emergency of Osun West Senatorial district to produce the next governor in 2018 after the expiration of the incumbent Governor Rauf Aregbesola in office, flaying those who were claiming that the Senatorial district lacked
acceptable personality to rule the State come 2018.
Comrade Sulaiman stated that the agitation became imperative in the interest of Justice, equity and fairness as well as peaceful co-existence of the State, saying that other two senatorial districts of the State have been in the saddle for almost twenty years in the current political dispensation, correcting the impression that the Senatorial district has many important personalities that could rule the State without fear or favour in 2018.
The Senatorial district, which has never produced a governor since the current political dispensation of almost twenty(20) years, comprises of ten(10) local governments, including; Ayedire, Ayedaade, Ede South,Ede North, Egbedore, Ejigbo,Iwo,Isokan, Irewole and Olaoluwa, seeking the support of the stakeholders in the district for the project.
The rights’ activist, in a signed statement which copies were made available to newsmen on Sunday, maintained that it was figment of the imagination of those who were creating bad impression about the Osun West Senatorial district for their selfish political interest in 2018,that the senatorial district did not have men and women of timber and caliber that could govern the state come 2018.
OWEPA boss further stressed that the group was formed to agitate and ensure that all the registered political parties that would participate in the 2018 guber election in the State field the either son or daughter of the Senatorial district as their candidate in order to foster political harmonious relationship among the citizens of the State.
Analyzing further that since the beginning of the current democratic dispensation in 1999, Osun Central Senatorial district had occupied the position of the governor of the State for eleven and half years (11 1/2) years and Osun East Senatorial district is currently occupying it for almost eight (8) years now, while the Osun West senatorial district had not be given the opportunity to rule the State, saying that there could not be peace without justice ,equity and fairness in any given society.
According to him, “Although, every citizens of the State has the constitutional right to vie for the plum job but in the interest of justice, equity and fairness and equal representation for the stability of the polity in the State and it is crystal clear that Osun west senatorial district is to produce the next governor of the State come 2018 and all the stakeholders including; Obas, political leaders across the political divides, political office holders, opinion moulders and electorates in the Senatorial district would be carried along in this campaign for the emergency of Osun west citizen to
become the governor of the State in 2018”
Sulaiman who doubles as Executive Chairman, Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ), disclosed that the years of uninterrupted democratic engineering in the State had encouraged zoning arrangement on principle in the polity so as to have political stability in the political atmosphere of the State, noting that those who were saying otherwise, were doing so to realize their selfish political ambition in 2018.
He therefore sought for the political understanding of the other two senatorial districts that had earlier occupied the plum position in the state to support the Osun West Senatorial district to produce the next governor of the State in the interest of political fairplay, promising that the group would be presented to the public officially by September this year, where its mission with aims and objectives would be unveiled before the beginning of its sensitization on the
subject matter across the ten(10) local government areas of the senatorial district.
