Vice Chancellor of the Kaduna State University (KASU) Prof. Muhammad Tanko has debunked rumor that is trending on social media that the Kafanchan Campus of the University has been closed down with the view to relocate both academic and non-academic activities of the campus to the Kaduna Main Campus. This was stated in a statement signed by its VC and issued to Journalists on the 22nd May, 2017 in Kaduna State said,” This rumor emanated as a result of a “Notice of Resumption” issued out by the Management of KASU, Kafanchan Campus which directed all undergraduate students of Kafanchan Campus that the KASU portal would be opened on Monday (today) 22nd May, 2017” for those who were unable to complete their (first semester) registration, they should ensure they do so”.
What thickens the closure rumor further was a paragraph in the resumption notice which noted that “all students would resume at the main campus” same date, and are therefore “advised to report at the consultancy unit where you will be allocated accommodation at no cost to you”, while “lectures would commence at the main campus on Monday 29th May, 2017” respectively.
However, making a clarification on the said notice of resumption, the Vice Chancellor explained that,” the current action was taken on the best interest of the students so that they can cover the lost semester; catch up and continue with their normal studies pending when the campus is reopened, which academic activities were suspended last December owing to security breakdown in Kafanchan,” According to him,” no students were left behind in their academic pursuit during his time as he was very committed to taking Kaduna State University to higher academic success before the completion of his tenure as Vice Chancellor.
“Students of the Kafanchan Campus were seen in groups at the main campus discussing in exciting tunes after they have given details of their registration as directed by the University authority. The Kafanchan Campus of KASU is made up of two faculties and eight departments. They are Faculty of Environmental Science and Faculty of Agriculture. They consist of the following departments. viz: Environmental Management, Architecture, Estate Management, Quantity Survey; and Agric Extension, Agric Economics, Crop Production and Animal Science. The statement added
